Dr. Rick Gustave, CIR Regional VP and resident at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx and Drs. Michelle Lin and Shaun Yang, residents at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, added their voices and stories to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) campaign against further Medicaid cuts.
The residents told reporters that safety-net hospitals are the epicenter of healthy communities, not only keeping community members physically healthy (and working!), but also providing jobs and stimulating the economy in and around the hospital. Medicaid cuts wouldn’t produce the net financial benefits politicians think they would; instead, they would affect working families, both physically and financially, at a time when they are most vulnerable.
