Residents at Maimonides Medical Center prove that when united, much can be achieved. In the midst of uncertainty for many Brooklyn hospitals–CIR members at Maimonides were able to bargain and win a contract setting an excellent model for other hospitals to follow.
Maimonides continues to be a leader in Quality Improvement projects led by residents. By collaborating closely with administration, housestaff won major increases in salaries and medical education money. Effective November 1, 2013 through October 31, 2016 residents will receive the following:
Salary Increases: 2% on 11/1/2014, 1.5% on 11/1/2015, 2% on 5/1/2016.
Medical Education Benefit: Increase to $400 reimbursement per academic year for conferences, board review, textbooks, journals, PDAs, and exam fees.
Meals Benefit: $750 pre-loaded meal card per academic year to be used at the Maimonides cafeteria and other approved outside vendors.
Quality Improvement: Continuing incentive bonuses ($180,000 house staff wide set aside per academic year) for participation in and successful completion of Quality Improvement projects. Maimonides will also contribute $20,000 per year into CIR’s Joint Quality Improvement Association (JQIA) fund to further facilitate resident Quality Improvement projects at Maimonides.
