• Post-Residency Life Workshop
• Leadership Opportunities

Report by Dr.Michael Nagar, CIR
Regional Vice President
RESIDENTS, FELLOWS,
COLLEAGUES…
I’d like to share with you a brief
update on the outlook for CIR in New
Jersey in 2010, as well as a few opportunities
for CIR members that you
won’t want to miss.
CIR contract negotiations with
Robert Wood Johnson, University
Hospital, and SOM continue. Proposals
were discussed, but due to the fiscal
environment at UMDNJ, the administration
would not sign a contract in
calendar year 2009. The negotiating
committee, made up of dedicated residents
at all three hospitals and our
experienced CIR staff, will be meeting
soon to discuss how we should proceed
to obtain a fair contract for our members
as soon as possible.
At St. Michael’s Medical Center,
we had a successful wage reopener
with a 3% salary increase this year.
Considering the difficult negotiations
around the country, this is truly a
great success! Congratulations to the
CIR staffers Cliff and Victor, and the
residents at St. Michael’s!
On Saturday, Feb. 27th, 2010 from
9:30 am to 1 pm, members are invited
to the first annual “Workshop on Post-
Residency Life” in Newark. In this
workshop, you will learn from experts
how to negotiate an employment contract,
plan your finances, and protect
your assets. The presentations will be
engaging and relevant; I hope you
take advantage of this opportunity!
Email Cliff at
cfreid@cirseiu.org for
more information.
In March, elections will be held for
new and returning delegates and representatives.
As a delegate, you’d have
an opportunity to represent your fellow
residents in matters concerning
work hours, working conditions,
salaries, negotiations, etc. You will also
be invited to participate in the CIR
National Convention in Philadelphia
this May, including leadership workshops
and membership discussions
with CIR members from across the
country, as well as appointing the
incoming executive committee.
CIR is strong in New Jersey
because of our strong leadership!
Please contact your current representatives
and delegates to learn more
about how to become a RESIDENT
LEADER.
CIR is your union! Make it what you
want it to be! Be active! Be present!
