NORTH GENERAL RESIDENT PHYSICIANS: “WE’RE NO APRIL FOOLS”

Wednesday, April 01, 2009

On Wednesday, April 1, resident doctors at North General Hospital in Harlem will conduct an informational picket outside the hospital. The residents will be handing out leaflet to inform the community about their commitment to swiftly settle their long-running contract negotiations with the administration, particularly on issues related to better equipment and creating a work environment conducive to improving patient care.

The picket is also intended to raise concerns about questionable spending and past management decisions regarding health benefits for employees.

The doctors, who are members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU Healthcare), have been without a contract since October 2007.

The hospital employs 51 resident physicians, in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry and Podiatry. The residents serve a crucial role in providing quality health care in an underserved community and are committed to negotiating a new contract so they can continue to fulfill the hospital’s mission. North General residents have been part of the union for nearly 30 years.
