Through the patient care fund and quality improvement funding we have been able to revamp our dining experience as well as build a space for residents to relax and work. As a member of CIR, I have learned the importance of being in a union and the direct impact collective bargaining has on our daily life.
I believe uniform organizational standards across the country would help influence the involvement of all members at a local and national level.
Creating a venue for residents to be able to be voice ideas and be a part of subcommittees and action groups allows for the organization to grow. CIR’s larger role in the union movement should be continued education about the role of residents unions should be readily available. Testimonies from other organizations that were previously unionized would demonstrate the importance of maintaining a union.
