Being members of CIR played an integral role in my chapter’s recent contract negotiations. Our union has also served as an important force in unifying housestaff, as well as played part in acclimating new residents and interns into post-grad life.
I have learned a lot in my time as a CIR member, specifically about the importance of inter- and intra-program communication for the greater good of residents nationally.
Reaching out to other residents, house staff and residency programs is key in growing CIR. CIR’s reach is limited nationally. I would like every resident to have the opportunity to play a bigger role in this organization. I have noted an astonishing lack of resident input in hospital administration. Increasing participation in hospital policy with the help of CIR will allow residents to have a greater voice in the regulations that guide day to day decision making.
