CPMC Residents to Demand Improved Patient Care, Physician Well-being

San Francisco, CA The resident physicians of California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco will rally for a fair contract this Friday, 5/1, to demand Sutter Health agree to a fair first contract that prioritizes patient and physician well-being above profit. Represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR-SEIU), the frontline doctors work up to 80-hours a week and earn pay barely above minimum wage—all while providing the majority of patient care across CPMC’s four medical campuses.

After almost nine months of negotiations with hospital administrators without an agreement, CPMC residents say that their inadequate pay and a lack of support from hospital management has left many of them suffering from widespread burnout and struggling to afford basic necessities while living and working in the most expensive cities in the country.

WHO: Resident and fellow physicians of the California Pacific Medical Center system, community partners, and District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston

WHAT: Residents will rally together with their allies to demand CPMC invest in San Francisco’s health by agreeing to a fair first contract for CIR resident physicians. Their core demands include fair pay that will help them afford the cost of living in San Francisco, adequate sick days, and crucial workplace safety protections that will enable them to continue providing exceptional care to their communities without compromising their own wellbeing.

WHERE: CPMC Van Ness Campus, 101 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94109

WHEN: Friday, May 17, 12:30 p.m.
