CPMC Residents Hold Action to Demand Improved Patient Care, Physician Well-being
San Francisco, CA – This evening, the resident and fellow physicians of California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco will rally for a fair contract at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The over 100 physicians, represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU), are advocating for a fair first contract with Sutter Health.
Living in the nation’s most expensive metropolitan area, CPMC housestaff are underpaid and frequently overworked, receiving just two days of sick leave per year and regularly working 80 hour weeks. After securing union representation in March of this year, the physicians are now fighting to improve their working conditions so they can continue providing exceptional care for the Bay Area. Coming on the heels of their colleagues’ historic contract victory at Stanford Medical Center, CPMC’s frontline doctors are working to raise the bar for care in one of the nation’s wealthiest regions.
WHO: Resident and fellow physicians of the California Pacific Medical Center system, community partners. Honey Mahogany, District Director for Assemblymember Matt Haney and Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, will speak in solidarity with the young doctors.
