Every summer, CIR partners with community organizations in NYC to lead groups of first-year physicians on walking tours to get to know their new neighborhoods and the particular health needs of their community.
By exploring neighborhoods surrounding their hospitals alongside community-partner “tour guides,” new physicians at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, Harlem Hospital in Manhattan, and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn learn more about their patient communities, how structural issues like gentrification impact health, and how communities are fighting back.
This year, CIR’s community walking tour program expanded to Philly, where physicians at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple, and Jefferson had the chance to learn about the history of health and hospitals across the city.
