Family Medicine, San Francisco General Hospital
In my time as a resident at SFGH I’ve experience first-hand the impact that union membership can have on our work environment and the care we provide to our patients. In my hospital alone, CIR has provided us with improved cafeteria options, education reimbursement, and an increased voice in the hospital. It’s also been great to see how CIR has partnered in efforts with #WhiteCoats4BlackLives and our efforts to increase patient safety and improve interactions with law enforcement in the hospital.
On a personal note, being a CIR member has taught me a lot about the details of contract negotiations, and importance of being a strong negotiator. As a Regional Vice President, I plan to help our union develop more advocacy and service work and programming, and my efforts are primarily in advocacy for our patients and increasing the education of my colleagues regarding unconscious bias and anti-oppression
