Fair Contract for Rhode Island Health

Keep Care in Rhode Island. Support Resident Physicians.

A fair contract means better care for our communities.

Every day, more than 900 resident and fellow physicians care for Rhode Islanders – working long hours in our emergency rooms, hospitals, and clinics. They are there for life’s most important and difficult moments, caring for our families, neighbors, and the most vulnerable among us.

Now, they need our support.

Why This Matters

Despite their essential role, many resident doctors are struggling to get by facing:

  • Rising costs of living
  • Heavy student debt
  • Substandard pay that amounts to $16–18 an hour
  • 1 in 7 experienced food insecurity
  • All these pressures, and more, lead to significant burnout and threaten the quality of care

Supporting resident physicians means supporting patients. A contract with fair wages and benefits will help ensure that they can bring their best selves to the hospital and be fully present to deliver high-quality patient care.

Investing in resident doctors is investing in the health of Rhode Island

Rhode Island is already facing a doctor shortage, especially in primary care, with many patients struggling to access timely care. This problem is expected to grow.

Resident physicians are key to the solution: those who train and can build stable lives here are far more likely to stay.

A fair contract helps recruit and keep doctors in Rhode Island – so Rhode Islanders can get the care they need, now and in the future.

Rhode Island Hospital and Care New England must reach a fair agreement without delay.
