CIR leaders at Jackson Memorial Hospital know what it’s like to grow a union in a city that’s hostile to organized labor. During a contract negotiations session this past fall, over 100 residents packed the room to demand that salaries increase to match the rising costs of living in the Miami area. As a result of their dedication to preserving the right to collective bargaining, residents were able to win 2% increases, a new health and wellness initiative project that includes offering healthier options in the cafeteria, and a rewards-based program that prioritizes personal well-being and preventative care for physicians.
