Months after winning their historic union election at one of the biggest health systems in the country, Kaiser Permanente physicians recently secured a strong first contract, including wage gains of 14.5% over three years, support for housing, relocation, meals, and conferences, and much more!
Throughout negotiations, the CIR doctors consistently took action, gathering hundreds of signatures and leading a petition delivery to the CEO, rallying outside the hospital, and MORE. Along with significant improvements to pay and essential benefits, including additional paid time off, Kaiser housestaff won a $40,000 annual patient-focused project fund–which will be totally resident-run!
“We pursued this career because we want to care for people, but the only way we can do that is if we ourselves are healthy and supported,” said Dr. Cyrus Mirzazadeh, an internal medicine resident at Kaiser’s Oakland facility. “Now that we have a contract that relieves so many of the burdens residents face, we’ll be able to provide even better care to the community.”
