State Senator Durazo Joins UC Davis Resident Physicians’ Call to Complete Union Contract
UCDH Administration’s regressive bargaining prompts Virtual Press Conference on May 21, 2020
Sacramento- Last May, the Interns and Resident physicians at UC Davis chose to organize with the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU). Though they began contract bargaining in good faith back in September, they have yet to finalize a viable agreement. Recently fellow Residents across the UC system have settled their labor contracts with benefits and compensation matching the value they bring to their residency programs.
The 600 UC Davis resident physicians recently submitted a petition to UC Davis and the UC Board of Regents advocating for health, well-being and safety on the job, supported by a contract that more adequately addresses their needs in Sacramento County. On Thursday, they will host a virtual press conference, joined by State Senator María Elena Durazo.
“As a labor leader for many years, I have seen many employer practices that I don’t agree with,” Senator Durazo stated. “UC Davis’ disrespect of our physicians in a time when we need them the most, and while they are risking their lives, is unimaginable. Every business is going through tough times right now, but we need to support our physicians in getting parity with their UC counterparts.”
Who: Interns, Residents and Fellows at UC Davis will be joined by State Senator María Elena Durazo and organizers with the Committee of Interns and Residents.
What: In this virtual town hall, Residents will share the challenges they face and the basic workers protections they are still fighting for eight months later.
